Sen. Jeri Costa, D-Marysville just might have a good idea with her SB 5833 – legislative review of initiatives. Legislators will travel around the state at taxpayer’s expense, explaining an initiative voters have already approved by signing its petition to get it on the ballot.
Of course, voters need help in understanding its impact. In fact this is such a good idea, an initiative may be in order to apply the same review to bills the legislators put forth into law. Could you imagine their explanation of this initiative?
Maybe they should go around the state explaining how the bill will impact hard-working families, where the family could cut spending to pay the ever-increasing taxes and how families having less income to spend is a good thing.
Legislators just don’t get it. The state has less money. Whatever the cause, one would think they’d spend less. Not our legislators. They need to explain to us that a tax cut, even by initiative, means higher taxes elsewhere! You voters just don’t get it! Or do we? Vote in November and send the message: Legislators just don’t get it.
