When Republicans tell you that they have a better plan to fix the economy, decrease government spending or fix health care, they are really hoping you have a short memory.
They had six years, from 2000 to 2006, to fix all these things and yet we saw the deficit rise at record rates, saw them promote legislation that sent our jobs offshore and never did anything that helped individuals get health care. But they sure did help corporations and the very wealthy.
Republicans cut the top 1 percent’s taxes over and over while telling us this would stimulate the economy so much that more jobs would inevitably follow. They told us this several times as the first few tries did not work. Unfortunately, their policies just put us on track to drop into a depression and never produced the promised jobs (at least in this country).
The Democrats may not have all the answers, but for our country’s sake we need to take a different direction and they are trying to do that. If Republicans would accept the consequences of the last two elections the country could move on a lot quicker. We need to find out if the new folks (you know, the ones who were elected by a majority of Americans) have ideas that might work.
Instead we are spending time debunking outright lies and planned misdirection made by a Republican Party that has gone so far as to cheer when America loses, just because they don’t like the guy in charge. (What happened to “country first”?) Republicans are now going overseas and undermining America’s policies — this was considered treason by those same folks just one year ago.
History has shown that the Bushites got it wrong. Now it’s time let the new folks have a chance!
