I find it sad that 100 employees of the city of Arlington will receive furloughs this year due to a $900,000 shortfall. This shortfall is not due to the economy, but due to a former city of Arlington employee, Terry L. Davis, who stole $1.3 million and was convicted in federal court.
How about after serving time, Davis as part of her restitution is ordered to come back to Arlington every day to fill and repair potholes, pick up trash, mow and edge city lawns, sweep, paint, and work off the $1.3 million? Davis has already forfeited her two homes, two cars and Whistler condo interest, but that is not quite enough. Davis should wear a shirt each day while doing community service which reads, “I’m a thief and I have ruined many lives in the city of Arlington.” Since they do this in many other states — just a thought. Cruel and unusual punishment? Ask the 100 employees being furloughed.
