Wow! I was taken back by The Herald’s decision to pull John Rosemond’s parenting column.
I found it somewhat odd that the announcement followed commentary from a local expert on child development, discrediting Rosemond (“Mental health issues of youths must be addressed,” The Herald, April 29.)
Then a few days later The Herald has the gall to write an editorial about why we need to
listen to celebrities’ points of view “even if we disagree” (The one about a priest, a rapper and a comedian,” The Herald, May 1. It finished by rightly pointing out that “Their audiences can make the choice to listen or ignore the message.” Well, duh!
With child behavioral problems, shouldn’t we have as much information and different perspective as possible? And decide for ourselves what we choose to ignore?
For me, Rosemond has some interesting things to say. And some of it not too flattering to his profession. Is that some of the outrage? I say good for him.
And, yes, I am an old crank born in the ’40s. I was raised with expectations and consequences. I wasn’t the center of the universe, nor was I special. It worked for me, and still works today.
I see it everyday, parents doing the hard work of raising great kids.
Bring back Rosemond and practice what you preach!
