I have noticed quite a few letters to the editor bashing legislators for not understanding what the voters want. The message from the voters is pretty clear.
Yes on I-695 (wipes out the transportation budget) yes on I-776 (wipes out local county road money) no on R-51 (comprehensive transportation/gas tax package).
It looks to me like the voters would rather put the money in their pockets than spend it to fix our transportation problem. Even if this means a great hardship for the businesses and residents of our area. This makes it easy. If you are a legislator, don’t spend any money to work on the transportation problem, simply stand in the middle of the Capitol building, click your heals together three times and wish the problem away. This will give the voters exactly what they have shown they want.
Or, perhaps, the voters believe the Tim Eyman rhetoric that you can keep the money in your pocket and spend it to fix the problem at the same time. If the voters didn’t figure out this won’t work, they really can’t blame politicians for not doing what the voters wanted them to do.
