Kudos to The Herald for providing a comprehensive overview of destruction due to Fourth of July fireworks. This year, there was a significant increase in hospital visits due to burn injuries and finger amputations. Costly structural damage, like losing a home, created by fireworks is nuts!
In our south Everett (unincorporated) neighborhood, the dynamite-sounding blasts that continued well beyond 2 a.m. made us feel like we were in the middle of a war zone, with gun powder permeating the air.
Let’s consider celebrating our Independence Day with professional displays only, and initiating legislation to prevent the sales of illegal fireworks at Indian reservations. We’re tired of giving our 4-year-old dog tranquilizers to calm her shattered nerves along with ours.
