On my walk in my neighborhood on the next block there is a pickup truck with a camper shell. The back of the truck has dozens of bumper stickers. There are a lot of stickers that reflect the owner’s opinion that liberals like me are un-American with a tone of hate. There are others pro gun-rights and against abortion and exalting the virtue of the person’s Christian religion.
I am a liberal agnostic, and this person and I would not agree on anything political. Though I disagree with the bumper stickers, I would stand with that person if anyone attempts to force that person to remove the stickers.
The person by one of the stickers is a Vietnam veteran, which puts us about the same age.
Why has it happened that if you disagree with someone they become the enemy? I am like almost all Americans who want to have a productive life. Want our families taken care of and want our children and grandchildren to have greater opportunities than we had.
That is not happening now because we separate ourselves in ideology and hate instead of compromise for the greater good. There is more shared beliefs in the living our lives than the separation of political opinion.
For generations in the future let’s work together to fix our infrastructure, get serious about education, and stand back satisfied we did what was best for America. Then we can meet and have some food and drink and argue about politics.
