Today there are two enforcement activities that are being given a lot of emphasis by law enforcement. They are the “click it or ticket” campaign to publicize the seat belt law and the “litter and it’s going to hurt” campaign. While these are worthwhile, protecting ourselves from our own stupidity, and protecting the environment, I feel if this kind of money is available, it should be spent on protecting myself and my family from other people’s stupidity, carelessness and negligence, which is running red lights.
Every day, I can count on two, if not three, cars turning left after the light has turned red, or crossing in front of me when my signal has been green for several seconds. I see this on almost every intersection I come to. This is a habit that kills people, causes personal injury, and significant property damage. It seems to me that the priorities of law enforcement are a bit off base.
