I’m one of the several parents that have been working to save the Boys &Girls Club in Granite Falls for the past two-plus years. I’m here to say that even though the club, at this time, appears to be non-existing, it doesn’t mean that there is no hope.
I would like to invite all community members to come to one of our parent meetings and see if they would like to be a part of the solution. The next meeting is 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Alfy’s in Granite Falls to discuss our game-plan. There is a fundraiser at the Everett Events Center Nov. 11 and 12 and we will need help manning a booth. The event is the Skin and Steel Expo.
We would like as much input, ideas and help from the people in our community as possible.
My reason for sticking with this for the long-haul is that the Boys &Girls Club has made a huge impact on my children. The club is not a day-care center, it is not a cult or gang, and you are not required to believe in anything to be a part of it.
The Boys &Girls Club has taught my children to believe in themselves and to be kind to their friends. That everyone is special. That physical activity is fun and laughing is good for you. How to share, that there are rules to follow. The Boys &Girls club has a power hour for completing homework. (Education is important.) The list goes on.
Sadly, for some kids, the Boys &Girls Club is the only safe place for them. There are kids who go to the Boys &Girls Club for a place to let their guard down, and be a kid for a few hours each day.
