We have a select group of people who are unhappy with the mayor of Marysville and the way he is doing his job. So, their solution is to change the form of government at a cost to us, the taxpayers, of $10,000 to $20,000 to put it on the ballot.
My feelings are if you don’t like the mayor you either run against him or support somebody to run against him. The mayor has to answer to all the citizens, a city manager only needs to please four of the seven council members. This doesn’t hold him or her accountable to almost any of the actions taken within the city not to mention $20,000 to $30,000 that would be spent on a nation wide search for maybe the right person.
This select group of people may have already chosen the person they want and this person may or may not live in the city. For all we know they could live in Seattle. City managers’ salaries are at about $120,000 or more for a city this size, not including the support staff they will have. Our mayor makes about $50,000. Please give this a lot of thought and ask some questions before voting, be careful you might get more than you ask for.
