The Mukilteo City Council has discovered an old sneaky ploy, censorship. A technique perfected by Hitler, Stalin and Mao to slip one by the public and control an outcome. Mukilteo is about to get the shaft, and public apathy is going to let it happen.
They must include Japanese Gulch in the upcoming Environmental Impact Statement regarding the relocation of the ferry landing, or we are going to get half a loaf.
In 2014 the Seattle Broadway District will have a new system in place allowing rail and cars to use the same lane, allowing improved parking and wider bike lanes. If we employ the same system in the Gulch it would have a load lane. Exit lane and rail lines in less width and impact than the random rock pile that’s there now. Toll booths and holding lots could locate up at the top. From there you would have a straight shot north, east, west or south.
I find it interesting that we have restored the salmon run in the creek which has attracted the blue herons and they thrive on young fish. We’ve quickly forgotten about the airliner that went into the Hudson. It hit a big bird and herons are big birds. There have been more strikes in the last week. SeaTac spends thousands a year to keep birds away and we feed them!
On the Fourth of July when the ferry line is past 84th and the tourists don’t understand the rules, try getting to your house safely.
Our mayor can conceive of a passenger bridge across the tracks. From where to where? Are they going to destabilize the bank along Mukilteo Lane with parking? Why not make the bridge wide enough to include parking? Maybe even parking for the ferry and rail.
If we keep giving our waterfront away a chunk at a time, there soon will be nothing left. The ferry is a massive land hog and it’s not doing us a favor! It’s destroying our town! I’ve been putting up with the ferry for 45-plus years and I’m sick to death of it!
