So many in our community for some time now have sacrificed their own resources (time and money) to keep the unique, historic Collins Building alive. They’ve done an amazing job in the face of the powerful few who can see only one vision: their own.
Everett is not blessed with very many structures of such historical presence that are still standing. I am not of the mind of some that never want change. I want Everett to be an alive, bustling place with lots of new building and commerce, but I also want it to have respect for its past.
Yes, it will cost money to keep this treasure standing, but visionaries seem to always find creative ways to face and overcome challenges. The Collins Building has such potential to be a unique Everett landmark. So many wonderful plans and uses have been suggested, with more to come.
Imagine a Maritime Museum to attract visitors and to teach our children an important part of their local heritage. What about a vibrant Farmers Market that we could go to not just in the summer but all year to buy local seasonal products from our surrounding growers in Snohomish County.
This is our last chance! Please consider attending the June 5 meeting to let the Port know your opinion. It will take place in the Weyerhauser Room at Everett Station from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you can’t attend, make your voice heard by writing a brief note to your local governing bodies.
