Letter: Archbishop Murphy needs to remember it’s not in the NFL

When I read The Herald article about three high school football teams forfeiting games against Archbishop Murphy this season, I was surprised at the comments made by Jerry Jensen, coach for the Murphy team.

“He wants to see changes on the state level and on the conference level that would prohibit teams forfeiting just days before games.”

Really, Jerry? Did you really want Granite Falls player to be forced to play your team and risk being injured?

When a high school team is concerned for the safety of their players, due to the overwhelming size difference of the players, they should be able to forfeit at game time, or any time for that matter. Once the players, the school and the parents made a decision that the game was unsafe, why would you want to force the team to play?

Has Coach Jensen forgot that this is high school football where a smaller player could easily be injured in a game that would undoubtedly be as lopsided as the typical games with Archbishop Murray have been over the years?

Given Jerry Jensen’s ludicrous comments, it is time for a new coach at Archbishop Murphy, who understands that this is high school football, not the NFL.
