As a man, with a sister, a father with a daughter and granddaughters I was appalled with Susan Hutchison’s defense of Donald Trump’s offensive remarks. To state that when he made those remarks he was a Democrat and now he is a Republican is an insult to all women.
But let’s review some leaders in the Republican party; Newt Gingrich married three times, gave his first wife divorce papers while in the hospital during cancer treatments, then had an affair with his current wife while married to his second wife. How about Rudy Guiliani married three times, enough said. The list goes on. And I won’t say that there aren’t men on the other side of the aisle who have had inappropriate relationships and actions. But to imply that Trump’s rhetoric and thoughts are different because he has changed parties, is absurd. This is boorish behavior from a spoiled petulant man-child who has no respect for women or other people, for that matter. For Hutchison to excuse this shows she has little respect for herself or for women in general. It is unfortunate that she is the head leadership of the Republican party in our state and this is the image of the party nationwide.
If this is the soul of the conservative party they are in serious trouble. I would hope that future Republican Party leadership can find reasonable, intelligent people to run for office. We need a dialog of ideas between both parties to move our nation forward into the future and not the vitriol that the current conservative leadership uses to demonize the opposition and support their corporate masters to the ruin of the nation.
