As a Snohomish County resident for many years, and as a person who maintains an independent view regarding politics, I am writing to give my enthusiastic support to Shelley Kloba in her bid for the state House in the 1st Legislative District. I take an interest in candidates on both sides who show integrity, compassion, and intelligence. As it happens, I have tended toward moderate Republicans, like those from a time when transparency and respectful behavior “across the aisle” was the norm for both parties.

I am dismayed to find that Shelley’s opponent has recently sent out a mailer distorting and misrepresenting her positions on the issues; and that he demonstrates a very serious lack of understanding of the complexity of the problems that face us as we go forward from this election. I have known Shelley for many years, so it doesn’t surprise me that a quick glance at her website reveals the resume of a candidate with a strong history of service to her community, and wide experience in health care, non-profits, and city government. These will prepare her to be a strong advocate for kids and families, and I am proud to “step across the line” to support her in these goals and give her my vote.
