Archbishop Murphy should eliminate tackling from their football program. Weaker high school teams would then be willing to play them. The Cascade Conference should agree to play flag football instead. Such a switch would definitely decrease injuries!
Being a practicing Catholic, I’m sure aggressive sports like tackle football do not match our faith. We are supposed to focus on service, helping the poor, peace and love. Therefore, I also suggest that Archbishop Murphy change its mascot’s name from the “Wildcats” to “Doves”!
The national appetite for hard-hitting football, apparently brainwashes our citizenry to idolize, celebrate and accept violence. No wonder our country is involved in so many wars around the world. Such sports also sends a message that males are dangerous. Not surprisingly then, men are locked-up in prison in the U.S. at a rate of 10 times higher than woman — often unfairly.
