The Aug. 7 letter, “Shame on all who don’t vote” made me chuckle. Not because any of it was untrue, it was well written and concise.
No, the reason I had to laugh was because, although we do indeed have a right to vote, we also have a right to not do so. I vote most of the time, but sometimes I don’t. Life gets in the way and sometimes I forget. And that’s just the way it is.
I do believe that if we could vote online that the turnout would be greatly increased. Can you imagine being able to cast your vote using your smartphone? Now that would make a difference in numbers. Not to mention the cost of printing and sending out ballots to every voter.
