Congratulations to Granite Falls for forfeiting its upcoming football game with Archbishop Murphy, following similar decisions by South Whidbey and Sultan. You have all showed compassion for players, and courage to do what should have begun years ago. I hope this continues.
These schools recognize it’s way more than just winning; take notice Murphy. High school sports have always encompassed more than winning. Tilting the proverbial and literal playing way off balance by recruiting the best athletes, and providing coaching, training, and equipment that cannot be matched by public schools, essentially creates the equivalent of a “terminator.” It cannot be beaten, and it will not stop until it destroys everything. Ironically, this very system has short-circuited, now in self-destruction mode.
Not the kids/athletes fault; congratulations for being elite athletes and the success you have attained. But the system is totally wrong, broken and has been for years. Go 4A, or play other private schools, and good luck. Murphy should not be compared to, or “compete” with our community school programs. It would be refreshing to finally see a few local athletes, and teams get the well deserved sports awards and recognition.
