I would like to applaud the decisions of the South Whidbey and Sultan High School football coaching staffs to forfeit their upcoming games with Archbishop Murphy to protect their student athletes. I would encourage more teams in their conference to do so. Hopefully this will generate discussion for the need for private schools, who have the ability to recruit players, to have their own separate league. There is nothing to be gained by any team on either side of a 73-0 romp. I very much appreciate the courage of coaching staffs who are willing to advocate for the safety of their players and for a fair and level playing field.
