Regarding Snohomish County Sheriff Ty Trenary and all the deputies: I am so saddened over recent events in my country that I have wanted to speak out and express my feelings to someone and to make myself heard, but I didn’t know where or how to do that until I realized our sheriff was a good place to start.
I’ve volunteered for almost seven years for the Snohomish County Sheriff and I silently admire and respect each and everyone. I’ve come to realize what they do on a daily basis and how very fortunate we are in this county to have them as our protector. I’ve become aware of the hazards and demands made on them and how thin they can be spread on any given day, especially as I am volunteering and listening on the call radio.
Not many realize the number of calls a deputy responds to, or the long shifts they work. I’ve become acquainted with many deputies through the years, as well as other members of the staff, and I have the ultimate respect for all of them.
I realize they are ordinary people with an extraordinary job. They have families they love and say goodbye to everyday like most people, except most people don’t have to worry if they will return to their families at the end of the day. I understand that they must prioritize their responses, and that some minor crimes may not see a deputy as quickly as expected because there is probably one or several much more serious incidents going on at one time.
I’ve become aware that many deputies also served in the military before joining law enforcement. These are my “heroes,” all of them who serve to protect our country and our communities, and the dedication of the department to serve with integrity, commitment, dignity and pride.
The current thinking of some in this country against law enforcement to “kill cops” is beyond comprehension. I just needed to tell someone how incredibly sad I feel and hope that each and everyone with the Sheriff’s team stays safe and to thank them for their service.
