I woke up one recent morning to my trusty Herald and a cup of my favorite coffee. As I read the opinion page I read a letter titled “Climate of Fear” and decided to respond.
The author said she was tired of the fear (she says) the Bush administration seemed intent on fostering. She went on to mention that in her opinion the fear keeps Americans distracted from issues of a faltering economy and corporate scandals at home. The author goes on raising the issues of people being laid off from jobs and schools being underfunded.
I have considered what the author said and have come to the conclusion she has been misled by a liberally biased media. Many Americans get their news from CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC and that is a huge mistake.
The president has been courageous in his stand against those who seek to destroy America. Most Americans agree with him. Being aware of the danger and not sticking our heads in the sand doesn’t equal creating fear. As for her comments on the economy and people being laid off, I disagree with her on terrorism being a distraction. I see the fight against terrorism as a priority.
People being laid off in this area has to do with the downturn in airplane sales caused by the attack of Sept. 11. Our schools aren’t hurt by lack of funding, they simply fail because of union mediocrity. Even Idaho, Texas and Kentucky have better schools. I might mention each of them has a smaller budget than our state for education.
