I will not sit back and have Laura Gentry blast the Everett Public Library. (Letters, Dec. 24 Everett Library: No leniency for first offense on books”). My family and I live in the county and choose to pay the outside city limits library fee because we believe that Everett has a great library system with a multitude of resources. Any time our family has had an overdue book there is a phone call, proceeded by a letter. The library accepts renewals either by phone or on-line. The library is justified to fine an individual for overdue materials.
Did Ms. Gentry think that no one else would want the materials that her son was using? As a courtesy to others, couldn’t she have taken the time to return the materials? The drop box can be used anytime the library isn’t open.
Ms. Gentry should take responsibility for her error, return materials on time and stop criticizing the Everett Library for her mistake.
