After reading the letter “Veterans Administration forgets its compassionate face” from writer Lloyd E. Helin in the March 23 Herald, I found myself going through my stack of newspapers. In his letter Mr. Helin states he was “shocked to read … that our kind and gentle president wants to charge veterans a $1,500 deductible to enroll in the Veteran Administration’s Federal Health Insurance Plan.” To my surprise, I was shocked to find that the article Mr. Helin referred to never mentioned President Bush’s name or even once referred to him. What the article did state is that the veterans’ affair secretary blamed their lack of funding on Congress. I would suggest the next time Mr. Helin feels compelled to write a letter to The Herald, that he at least reads the article before writing about it.
