I represent Lakewood Elementary School’s Early Childhood Programs, which serve developmentally delayed children 3-6 years old. A levy failure will reduce the number of educational assistants hired to work one-to-one with our most challenged special needs preschoolers. If these positions are eliminated, the quality of these preschool programs will be seriously compromised.
The speech-language program is supported by seven excellent people who help route children to and from services and assist with group instruction. The effectiveness of my speech program will decline without these assistants.
The incidents of autism, ADHD and speech and language disorders is on the rise. Research supports early intervention and Lakewood School District has an effective and dynamic team. These programs shine because of the educational assistants hired to help these young children develop motor, social, communication and cognitive skills. Please exercise your right to vote on Tuesday and vote for the children.
