In March, Lakewood voters did not pass the Lakewood school maintenance and operations levy renewal. The voters will have another opportunity to vote on April 27.
The school district has had to determine where cuts will be made should the levy fail again. Topping the list is athletics and extra-curricular activities. Any cuts the district needs to make will be hard to swallow, but these cuts will be particularly difficult for the community. Lakewood doesn’t have a gathering place for youth. No YMCA, no Boys and Girls Club. School events are where we congregate. Consider the options available to those kids who would not have a channel for their athletic or creative outlets should these activities be cut. Would our youth resort to mischief and possible vandalism? Who knows, but the ability to provide healthy options to the youth of our community starts right here with the voters.
This community has always supported the kids and their activities. Have you ever tried to find a seat at the homecoming football game, ever tried to squeeze into one of the drama productions or choir concerts? Gone to any of the soccer or basketball games? Please support Lakewood kids once again by voting yes on April 27!
