One letter writer may assert that considerable amounts of litter come from commercial haulers losing control of their loads. I’ve been able to bear witness to another source.
Sixteen years ago my wife selected our current residence in part based on its convenience to lots of services within walking distance. Unfortunately the parking lots associated with these conveniences also appear to be convenient places for people whose consciences don’t extend beyond the tips of their fingers to dump their refuse from their cars.
I say refuse and not litter, because they obviously refuse to haul used diapers; fast food bags stuffed with empty drink cups and food wrappers; latte cups, and any other number of unwanted items with them to a legitimate waste receptacle.
It really is no surprise, since, obviously, the current political climate has revealed that there are those among us lacking any background in civics. Thank goodness that the proprietors of the nearby businesses hire commercial sweepers to come through their lots.
