Many people have written to the editor regarding James Deming’s plight regarding the fines he has amassed (July 31 news article, “Silvana man says his property is no junkyard, but county disagrees”).
Many feel that the county is being unfair. Those who think there are new developments in the area that have caused this to come about are wrong. There are no new developments in this area. I have talked to Mr. Deming on numerous occasions. He is a friendly individual who lives in conditions that have caused concern for many people that live in the area. Mr. Deming’s hobby of collecting stuff has become more of a problem of hoarding. With the issues of his health, I hope that he never has to have paramedics figure out a way in and out of his home. Time can be the essence in an emergency and this collection of “stuff” could be a major obstacle.
I also know that Mr. Deming does not want to part with a lot of his things that he feels have a use. People have tried to help him. Sometimes there’s only so much you can do. I hope that the county and Mr. Deming can come up with a plan that will benefit everyone involved.
