I wish to thank The Herald for providing STEM student Nicole Piedrahita a platform to express her experiences and ambitions in pursuit of his education in the sciences (“Forum: Watching a Mars rover land launched by STEM studies,” The Herald, May 20).
As an advocate of STEM education, I believe the sciences provide the backbone of general employment. As a small specialty tool developer and manufacturer I’m entering my fifth year of providing project-based summer employment programs for STEM students, with emphasis placed on confidence building and creative thinking. I would encourage manufacturing and science-based businesses to undertake a philanthropic liability and carve out summer STEM work programs for our future leaders in science and manufacturing.
