My husband and I went to our polling place to do our civic duty and we could barely get into the door! Our polling place is at the Alderwood Water District business office in Lynnwood. We weren’t able to get there until 6:45 p.m. and we have never seen the amount of people waiting in lines!
They had four or five check-in lines; ours was the longest (S to Z). At the rate things weren’t going, we would have stood in line for at least an hour and a half just to sign in! If you were lucky enough to sign in, you then had to go to the other end of the room and stand in an extremely long line that wrapped around the room to actually vote. Looking at that line, that probably meant at least another hour or probably more.
One gal decided to give up and leave and we were right behind her. I am currently under doctor’s care for my feet and there was no way I could have stood for any amount of time, let alone three hours or more. No wonder absentee ballots are popular. As much as we dislike them, that’s the way we’ll have to go. Oh, yes, because of a meeting after work, we hadn’t had a chance to eat dinner prior to going to the polls, either. That would have been real cute if we had stayed in those horrific lines only to end up passed out from hunger!
