I would like to comment on the decision to leave the USC Trojan college football team out of the BCS championship game. I think the Pacific-10 Conference got the shaft again. A few years ago Oregon should have been selected, but the BCS went with an inferior Nebraska team.
I have a theory about this: Over and over in the media (TV, radio, newspaper, etc.) I hear about how the Pac-10 is an inferior conference. My theory about this is that if you say something loudly and often enough, people will believe it. Then it is propagated and supported by the BCS omitting Pac-10 teams from the big games.
Well, the Pac-10 is not an inferior conference, as supported by the facts. All one has to do is to look at how many players from the Pac-10 go to the NFL each year. Also, I did some research on the Internet and found that the Pac-10 has dominated the Rose Bowl the last 25 to 30 years, especially when it was an exclusive Pac-10 vs. Big Ten matchup.
Now, how is dominating the Rose Bowl translated into being a weak conference? It is just another case of East Coast bias which permeates all athletics these days. A lot of people would have liked to have seen a USC vs. Oklahoma or LSU match-up, but it was not to be. I hope USC beats Michigan and lays claim to part of the national championship, so that eventually we can get a playoff system, which we desperately need.
