Regarding the Jan. 13 guest commentary, “Healthcare system needs an overhaul,” by Dr. Anthony J. Roon: Most attention seems to be on ways to pay for the rising costs of healthcare. More emphasis needs to center on reducing those costs. An obvious way is to reduce the maximum costs of malpractice claims so doctors’ insurance costs can be drastically reduced. But other steps must be taken. For example, registered nurses could perform more routine and minor tasks. Doctors and hospitals really need to find ways to reduce costs.
