As the Snohomish City Council election draws near, Snohomish residents need to evaluate their choices and take a stand.
What difference do you want your vote to make? Carefully look at each candidate and what they stand for, don’t be confused by newspaper rhetoric. Council member Liz Loomis will be the first to point out that she is not running for mayor, she’s running for re-election of her current council seat, Position 6.
Each position on the City Council has one vote. Each vote carries the same weight; there are no seats that are more advantageous than the others.
Doug Thorndike is also running for Position 6. He is also running for re-election, but not for Position 6. Thorndike decided to switch the position to run for. Not to better serve the city and its residents, but for the sole purpose of ousting Liz Loomis.
Why? To preserve the “old-boy network?” Perhaps. But more importantly, he’s seeking to oust Liz Loomis because she’s concerned about both the happiness and wealth of Snohomish, its residents and business community. Thorndike’s concerns are for the wealth of business interests and it doesn’t make any difference if they are local or out-of-state. Preserving the beauty and charm of our city is not on his agenda.
So be careful where you cast your vote! These choices are for the future of you and your city.
Liz Loomis, Rebecca Loveless and Karen Guzak all stand for balanced choices and managed growth with the goal of enhancing the quality of our future while maintaining the charm of our small-town life.
