The state Department of Transportation has been in operation for quite awhile. You’d expect it to be able to design and build a Park &Ride facility at 112th Street with enough parking spaces and ample shelters after collecting data for years from the Eastmont Park &Ride.
All of the parking spaces in this lot are taken by around 8 a.m. There should be angled and parallel parking on the outside perimeters to increase the number of spaces. Get rid of those red no parking curbs. Also, overflow parking was utilized on the 112th Street overpass until someone decided to paint the curbs red.
The shelters are designed to accommodate six people. Considering that I’ve counted 30-plus people standing in line open to the elements for the 6:30 a.m. 510 Sound Transit southbound bus and the same for the 6:47 bus, the shelters aren’t user friendly. This is one of the rainiest parts of the country.
Also, get rid of the loading and unloading areas which are mis-marked and which people have been ticketed for. Nobody uses them for loading and unloading anyway. People park there and we need the parking. As they know, loading and unloading takes a couple of minutes.
Now that I’ve brought this up, the DOT probably won’t do anything because it’s not their idea. We riders applaud the Park &Rides and we can see our taxes at work, but we need parking spaces. Good grief, Charlie Brown!
On the positive side, I can arrive at work in downtown Seattle door-to-door on the average anywhere from 50 minutes to 1 hour. You can’t beat that — that is, if you can find a parking space!
