On behalf of Lou and Maria Imbesi, I would like to thank the people of Monroe for their very generous response to the Imbesi Fund Garage Sale last week. The sale, along with other cash donations, raised over $15,000 and will go a long way to assist the family with the many expenses that go beyond medical insurance. Lou Imbesi, former MHS Principal, suffered a severe stroke earlier in the summer. While he is making fantastic progress, he still has a very long way to go. Certainly the money raised will help Lou as he recovers, but far more powerful is the genuine love and support people have showed him since the stroke.
I would also like to thank my co-conspirators who originally planned this event: Melanie Claybrook, Cindy Cook, Dianne Linden, Michelle McKenzie, Dottie Simoni and Kathy Yingling. We also had a dedicated “staff” that on some or all of the days came to help price, sort and display donations and to help sell them. At last count there were over 50 different individuals working hard to make this event happen. These people are collectively and fondly known as “Lou’s Crew.”
Thank you, item donors. The word got out and our friends and neighbors responded.
Thank you Monroe School District and Park Place Middle School for the use of the building and the support your respective staffs showed. Thank you to Monroe businesses Ixtapa Restaurant and the Wicked Baking Company for providing food for our workers. When I say food I mean more than a bag of chips and a donut. It was really, really good!
Finally, thank you Monroe. Our customers were very generous and good-natured. It was a fun experience. The spirit of love and care is alive in this community and I am proud to live in such a vibrant town.
