I always know late summer has arrived when I hear the Cascade High School marching band practicing in the school parking lot. The steady beat of the drums and roar of the horns can be loud at times, but it is, nonetheless, music to my ears. For me, it is the sound of dedication and discipline, the sound of students and staff working together toward a common goal.
It gives me great confidence in today’s youth to hear them march in all kinds of weather knowing that they give up nights and weekends for practice and competition, as well as giving up part of their summer vacation to attend band camp. With much of the media focused on the bad apples in today’s society it’s nice to hear and see a group of kids working and playing so well together. In my book, a little “loud music” goes a long way. Cascade Sound play on.
