As a director with the Boys &Girls Club for over 10 years, I have been continually impressed with the kids I encounter. Their resiliency in the face of adversity amazes me on a regular basis. I have seen kids come from the most horrible of circumstances and still have the kindest of hearts. As the holiday season approaches, I was made even more aware of this the other day.
Our kids were making Christmas cards to Santa, letting him know what they wanted this holiday season.
Four of our kids, all of whom live in low-income housing, made special pouches in their cards. Inside those pouches they put all the money they had in their pockets and asked Santa to give the money to charity. Between the four of them they came up with $1.48. They didn’t ask for toys, or clothes, or anything else they needed, they just wanted to help others.
It is truly incredible that these children, who have very little of their own, wanted to do all they could for those even less fortunate than themselves.
