I spent six years as chairman of the Lynnwood Library Board and another six years on the Lynnwood City Council. During those 12 years I successfully fought to get two major building expansions for our Lynnwood facility.
I’m voting yes on Prop. 1 and here’s why: Over 60 percent of our library users live outside our Lynnwood City limits. Both those living in unincorporated Snohomish County and those living in every major city near us are paying their fair share to Sno-Isle for using our Lynnwood Library and also for using any other Sno-Isle Library! We in Lynnwood are not paying our fair share. We get away with paying $1.2 million from our general fund. This amount does not begin to give Sno-Isle the necessary funds to maintain our library as it is, let alone provide any funds for improvement and enhancement. If you haven’t visited our library recently, drop in. You will see many people of all ages – school kids, businessmen, moms and dads, retirees – and there is a crowd every day! Vote yes on Prop. 1. Let’s start paying our fair share.
