In response to the Thursday letter, “Put brakes on liberal agenda,” which agreed with the Michael Ennis commentary on Sunday: I would l
ike to say that, yes, we do elect those in power, and yes, they do create policies supporting our needs. While it may not work that way all of the time, most of the time our city mentality and need for government support really are satisfied, even though we don’t really like paying for them.
I would like to see my gas and vehicle taxes go to reduce traffic congestion, too. Why not do that with mass transit, bike paths, and car-free options that help save money, keep the air cleaner and save the environment for our heirs?
How about this, we start referring to those who want more freeways paid for with taxes on the rest of us as left-wing liberal socialists, and the idea of doing what the majority voted for as free will and free-market?
Let’s not forget that those of us voting for these people are also paying for these things with our taxes. In a democracy the majority rules. It’s better than the alternatives.
