Regarding the tougher DUI law being discussed, I’d like to make a proposal. I’ve never read the DUI RCW or even a summary of it, and I consider myself an informed citizen. If I don’t know it, then many other people don’t know it either. It’s all rumor and urban legend, with the occasional spectacular news story for an attention getter. At that point the pain and destruction is done. On the subject of driving while intoxicated, I believe education is in order. That education could easily come by way of a read-and-initial form while getting or renewing a driver’s license. Spelled out simply and without legalese, it would be quick, painless, inexpensive and an easily enforceable way to make the driving public aware.
