After reading about Kismet Turkish Cafe and it being forced to leave Alderwood mall, I have to say that Starbucks along with mall management is totally in the wrong here (“Alderwood mall evicts Turkish cafe that fought Starbucks’ ‘exclusive,’” The Herald, May 26).
As a loyal customer of Kismet, I have really enjoyed their coffee and pastries and the location where it is was located. It is totally wrong that mall management along with Starbucks have basically bullied Kismet into relocating to the food court where it is much harder to attract customers, then evicting them when the owners declined. It also sends the message to other potential small businesses that want to set up in the mall that they have no say in where they can set up even if where the mall puts them hurts their ability to make a profit.
This situation along with Starbucks’ stance on unions has prompted me to boycott their coffee and products, and I encourage others especially those that support small businesses to do the same.
