Herald columnist Tom Burke’s response to a Dec. 9 letter to The Herald, talking about the “persecution” of the unvaccinated in this country seemed condescending at best and an attempt to defend the indefensible at worst.
It was interesting that on the front page of The Herald that same day there was a headline touting the fact that 200 million Americans have been vaccinated and yet the covid virus continues to surge. This, in spite of Anthony Fauci’s directives, warnings and protestations. Neither he nor anyone else have any idea of the potential long-term side effects of the covid vaccines. The unvaccinated are being unfairly targeted and persecuted for whatever reason they have chosen not to be vaccinated and standing up for their constitutional rights and freedoms.
Yes, I have been fully vaccinated (booster shot too) and I advise everyone to get vaccinated (except young children) but I fully support the right of people who decide not to get vaccinated or let their children get vaccinated. I think most of us are tired of having government boots on our necks because of this pandemic. Now that their man, “Sleepy Joe,” is doing such a great job as president, maybe Burke, Eugene Robinson and Sid Schwab, who never let the facts get in the way of their vindictive, divisive “journalism” and their intolerance of those on the right who might disagree with them, can take a break.
This leads to the pleas from the local papers asking for support, financially and otherwise, from their readers. Their loss of readership is primarily due to two factors: easy access to the internet and the lack of presenting both sides of issues important to their readers in both straight news and the editorial page. For example—how many articles about man-made climate change do we see every day from so-called “experts” (like Gov. Jay Inslee) when there are just as many “experts” who have an opposing viewpoint that we never hear from? Just saying!
Have a blessed Christmas and let’s pray for a better 2022!
