It’s not only the merchants on First Street in Snohomish who will suffer from the absence of the annual motorcycle show. The Senior Center, Historical Society, Food Bank and a scholarship recipient will also miss out. Every year, the ABATE group that puts on the show divides its profits among these groups, which are always in need of extra funding, plus a young person who is given scholarship money to further his/her education.
A few years ago, when they were forced to spend an unusually large amount on security, they didn’t have any profits and they took money out of their own funds so that these organizations wouldn’t suffer their loss. As has been said, there have never been any serious incidents in conjunction with this show. In fact, the ABATE people are among the nicest I’ve ever met. I believe in taking precautions; I don’t believe in living in fear when it isn’t warranted.
