This letter is to thank the many Granite Falls parents, community members and school employees that helped support the bond issue for the Sept. 17 election.
While the bond issue for a new high school failed, the 55 percent yes vote sends a very positive message of support from our community. Unfortunately, school districts are held to a supermajority vote of 60 percent yes to pass, which we did not achieve. I strongly believe the long-term facility plan is an excellent plan that addresses enrollment growth for students at all grade levels.
A special thanks goes to the Citizen’s Committee – Mike Haug, Karen Hickenbottom, Elizabeth Adams, Jody Hillery, Steve Howell and Cory Hitchcock – for months of dedication and commitment to the improvement of school facilities. Other volunteers who deserve a round of applause include Deborah Weinstien, Doug and Bev Tungel, Gloria Miller, Ilene Engebretsen, Sue Davis, Michelle, Shante and Nyasha Stowell, Anna Groat, Charmaine Webb, Flori Quaterman, Taryn Perrigoue, Dori, Chelsea and Brittany Murry, Jason Bowen, Grace Coykendall, Kelly Sylliaasen, Tanya and Jim Romack, Debbie Taylor, Carolyn Fisk, Carolyn Morris, Tina Messina and Carol Haug.
There are many more parents, community members, students and business leaders who offered help and support. Thank you to everyone who helped with the election.
I continue to be impressed with programs and services in the Granite Falls School District and the commitment of our board and staff to work together to improve student achievement. We will continue our efforts to provide safe, adequate facilities for our students to learn and grow.
