As the wife of a member of the United States Navy, I know the heartache that comes along with it. My husband is aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, which was expected to return almost three months ago. But current world issues delayed and continue to delay its safe return home to Everett.
I am writing because all of these protestors make me sick. They show no support for the men and women of this country and other countries fighting for their rights. What these ignorant people fail to understand is the concept of freedom. America stands up for freedom – that is what we are known for. The reason why they are allowed to protest is the same reason we are at war. Simply for freedom.
Instead of seeing these ridiculous “No Iraq War” signs, these heartless people should be carrying “Support Our Troops” signs. My husband said to me a week ago, “I am scared to come home in fear that all those people that are in Seattle and all over the world that are protesting will think little of me because I fought in this war.”
That breaks my heart. All of the U.S. military members are heroes. Iraq’s people deserve the same things that we as Americans have. I will stand behind the president 100 percent. I wish that all these protesters would realize that the war has already begun and blocking streets and making a scene will not change that.
I ask that everyone, regardless of whether you know a military member, pray – not only for our troops, but troops all over the world. And let us pray that we learn to find another way.
