Given its performance the past four years, it’s not at all surprising that council harmony is a major issue in the Marysville City Council race. Along with economic development and infrastructure challenges, the city has been plagued by a divisive and sometimes dysfunctional city council. Voters in Marysville would be well served by ending the exhaustive tug of war and selecting Tom Grady, John Myers and Jon Nehring to four-year terms.
The highly contested race for position 1 pits incumbent Norma Jean Dierck against Grady, a former grocery store manager. Grady’s business background, and civic involvement are well suited to breaking the political gridlock gripping Marysville. Dierck’s unwavering passion for environmental issues and her "voice of the people" campaign have earned her many supporters.
For position 3, Myers brings impressive dedication to the city, past council experience and a passion for parks and public safety. Those qualities can help restore better functioning to the council. His opponent, Jeff Seibert, a state licensed electrician, has not been actively campaigning.
Nehring pictures a bright future for Marysville and would work to forge relationships to address the numerous challenges facing the growing city. His opponent, Tim Bond, sites quality of life, accountability from developers and protection of the Quilceda-Allen Watershed among his priorities.
