I am writing in response to the June 13 Herald article titled “City Hall survey coming,” informing us of an upcoming survey of Marysville residents to be done by our city’s leaders for the purpose of creating “improved services at City Hall.”
Survey the citizens to see what they want? Please, we aren’t stupid. Clearly this is a very thinly disguised public relations move on the part of our of our supposed caring and honest community leaders. Wouldn’t we all like to be able to dip into the public’s piggy bank anytime we decided we needed to dust off our images a bit? The bill for this survey will be $8,750 – part of which will come out of your pocket if you are a Marysville taxpayer.
Is this brain child of possible future mayoral hopeful Mike Leighan a warm fuzzy to help the voters of Marysville forget the shameless behavior of our current mayor during last fall’s election? Mayor Dave Weiser and his band not only supported a confessed forger they suppressed information that an investigation of Tom Grady was underway. Why this was done is most intriguing.
Mr. Grady’s campaign had nothing to do with him serving on the city council. His supporters were well aware he would be disqualified when his criminal behavior came to light. It did have everything to do with subverting the will of the people of Marysville by getting rid of incumbent Norma Jean Dierck. I think this is absolutely outrageous and completely unacceptable. I think it is high time to change the way business is done downtown. I support Reform Now and their excellent idea to switch from the mayor-council form of government to the manager-council form. It would be reassuring knowing that an educated, experienced and unbiased professional was guiding the city.
