As a former principal in the Marysville School District and a current parent, homeowner and taxpayer, I urge you to vote yes on the replacement levies to support the children of Marysville.
A vote for schools is a vote for the future; not just for the students who are currently enrolled or for those who will enroll in the future, but for the future of our community.
Every day I send my two sons to school in Marysville, and I commute to work in a district that is well-funded. I see the dramatic inequity in offerings and in support and safety for students as I travel between the two districts. I also see the way a community can rally around a school and benefit from it at the same time.
Here is what I know: Our facilities are failing. One of my sons attends a school where bathrooms are inadequate and light fixtures are falling from the ceiling. He carries a school-issued computer device that never functions properly. Our kids deserve more than this. I also know that Marysville has excellent teachers and paraeducators, and fantastic classified staff, who are all poised to take students to the next level. The only way out is through, and the only way through is to do this together.
Please, Marysville, put your heart where your home is and show our students that they matter. Please vote yes for schools; my family will.
