In light of the failure of the Marysville School District bond measure, we would hope that the city would put a moratorium on all future residential building and development. We cannot see the benefit of building more homes in an already overcrowded school district.
We see that on the street behind us, hundreds of new homes are slated to be built. Where are all these students supposed to attend school? How much larger do class sizes have to be? How many more portables must our schools have? It’s absurd.
We read how Mayor Dennis Kendall is encouraging businesses to call Marysville home. That is all fine and dandy if it supports local jobs. However, the ridiculous amount of proposed residential development in our city is going to choke our streets and schools.
We suggest an all-out moratorium on future residential development until a school bond is passed in Marysville. Perhaps this will be an incentive for these builders to put their money into citizens groups that support the bond efforts. Maybe they will take our dire school situation seriously.
We would like the city leaders to think long and hard about what they think is acceptable in Marysville. If overcrowded schools, overcrowded streets and disgruntled citizens is what they are striving for, then they are, unfortunately, on the path to success.
Years ago, we moved to Marysville because we wanted that “small town” feeling. Now we are wishing we had chosen to call another city home – and that feeling grows stronger every day. In fact, we’ve heard people refer to Marysville as the ghetto of Snohomish County. Please don’t let this become a reality.
