I would just like to add to what Mrs. Wilkie stated in her Dec. 6 letter to the editor about her grandson’s request for letters to our servicemen and women.
After reading the short plea from Pfc. Jason Rogers in the Nov. 12 FYI column, I suggested to my 9-year-old son that he should consider sending a letter to a serviceman. He took the task enthusiastically, and scanned the list of names. He picked out one, a Sgt. Boone.
My son wrote a short note explaining the plea in the paper. Within two weeks, Sgt. Jamie Boone responded. My son is elated, and has started a pen pal relationship with Sgt. Boone. When my son mentioned to one of his teachers at Cascade Elementary in Marysville what he done, the teacher took it upon himself to make it a class project. Sgt. Boone will now have 20 or so pen pals.
I want to thank Pfc. Rogers and his mother for bringing this to light. It is not often that children take so diligently to a task as they have to this. I know from Sgt. Boone’s first letter that all our men and women in the military appreciate the show of support. The soldiers can be written to at:
HHC 3BDE (C 3/4ADAR)
82nd ABN Div.
APO AE 09355
I can only encourage everyone who reads this request to take it to heart. It has been great pleasure for my son, my wife and me.
