A recent letter to the editor stated Marysville should hire police officers, not “waste” money on buildings. This negative opinion requires a rebuttal.
First, Mayor Jon Nehring and his “cronies” on the City Council are anything but spendthrifts. They are working hard to get the biggest bang out of every taxpayer’s dollar, and the proposed safety building does just that. Critics need to do more research before spouting the “wasting taxpayer’s money” line. The proposal is the result of careful, long-term and efficient planning, and it deserves overwhelming community support.
Second, there is a shortage of police officers, and Marysville is looking only for the “top cop” to add to our excellent police department. We attract the best candidates when we have an excellent police culture (which we have), a supportive community (lip service does not count!), and good facilities for positive working conditions (which we do NOT have). We expect our police to perform at the highest level at all times, and a supportive community needs to provide the tools, facilities and support to do just that.
Citizens who support the best for Marysville will ignore negative opinions and will vote “YES” on this excellent proposal!
